The Toronto Raptors are a basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. They are part of the NBA (National Basketball Association) of the USA. The NBA included this team as part of its re-expansion into Canada. They also included the Vancouver Grizzlies. Today, the Toronto Raptors are the only Canadian team that belongs to the NBA. The reason for this is that the Grizzlies moved on to Memphis in 2001. They played at the Skydome and moved to the Air Canada Center in 1999.

The Toronto Raptors struggled in the first years of its existence, but everything changed when they acquired Vince Carter in 1998. The Toronto Raptors made the NBA Playoffs in 2002, 2001 and 2000. In 2001, the Toronto Raptors advanced to the semifinals. Vince Carter left the Raptors in 2004 and Chris Bosh emerged as the leader of the team. But this time the Toronto Raptors were struggling all the time. The team won its first division title in the 2006-2007 season because they had Bryan Colangelo as general manager, a new roster and head coach Sam Mitchell. A new era for the Toronto Raptors began when Bosh left the team in July 2010. They had to make a roster overhaul.

The Raptors have a great fan base. They have enjoyed this fact since the beginning. They led the NBA in sellouts from 2000 to 2003. On Average they filled 83% of the capacity of the Air Canada Center during the 2006-2007 season. In the 2007–08 season, the Toronto Raptors were one of the leaders of the NBA in terms of sellouts. Forbes reports that the value of the Raptors franchise has risen over the years. The value of this franchise was $386 in 2009. The Raptors franchise were the only franchise with its own TV channel in the NBA. Its ratings are below most of the other sports events in the Canadian television, though.
