In 1996, while playing against the Detroit Red Wings, Kris Draper of the Red Wings was pushed into the boards and suffered massive injuries to the face, having to have reconstructive surgery. This incident sparked a rivalry which lasted almost six years. Still remembered today, especially by the fans and press, the rivalry has mostly died down between the teams.
